Airport/Travel Information
If you are flying in for the Gettysburg camp, we recommend the Harrisburg airport in Harrisburg, PA. For shuttle service to Gettysburg College, please fill out the travel services form. Keep in mind that it is one hour from the Harrisburg airport and camp begins at 3pm on Sunday, July 18th and ends after lunch on Friday, July 23rd.
If you are flying into Denver International, the recommended shuttle service is Super Shuttle (
www.rideshamrock.com). Please keep in mind that it will take two hours from Denver International to Fort Collins and camp starts at 3pm on August 1st and ends just after lunch on August 6th."
Running Camp Information/FAQ
Q. Are the Jim Ryun Running Camps residential camps?
A. Yes, though we do have day campers from time to time. Room and board are included in the cost of camp.
Q. Is the Jim Ryun Running Camp a Christian camp?
A. Without a doubt. We believe most complete runners are those who are well rounded physically, mentally and spiritually.
Q. What kind of lecturers does the camp usually have?
A. This year we will have Coach Marcus O’Sullivan, one of the greatest Irish milers of all time and head coach at Villanova, lecture at the Gettysburg camp. At the Colorado camp, we will again be joined by Dr. Jack Daniels, Coach Jay Johnson and Joe Falcon, one of the only Americans ever to go under 3:50 for the mile.
Q. What is the age limit for camp?
A. Our youngest campers must be 13, our oldest can be as old as they want to be. Our camp is usually comprised of high school athletes, median age being 16 years old.
Q. What is the daily routine at camp?
A. The typical day at the Jim Ryun Running Camp is:
6:00 wake-up
6:15-8:20: Workout
8:30-9:00: Breakfast
9:00-9:30: Showers
9:45-11:15: Morning devotionals, lecture period
11:30-12:15: Lunch
12:30-1:30: Flat on Back time (rest time)
1:50-3:15: Afternoon lecture
3:30-4:15: Cross training/second run
4:30-5:30 Ultimate Frisbee
5:45-6:15: Dinner
6:15-7:45: Free Time
7:45-8:15: Showers
8:30-9:30: All Camp meeting
10:00: Lights out.
Q. Is the camp more of a training or instructional camp?
A. The purpose of our camp is instructional, but we get a lot of training in as well.
Q. Will there be a pick-up at the airport for campers who are flying to camp?
No. If you are flying into Harrisburg for the Gettysburg camp, please fill out the transportation form that was sent to you. If you are flying into Denver International for the Colorado State camp, the recommended shuttle service is Super Shuttle (
www.rideshamrock.com). Please keep in mind that it will take one hour from Harrisburg to Gettysburg and two hours from Denver International to Fort Collins and camp starts at 3pm on Sunday ends just after lunch on Friday.
Q. What should a camper bring to camp?
A. Plenty of running gear as well as relaxed summer clothes for meal and lecture times. Sheets, pillows, towels and blankets are provided by Colorado State, but campers may consider bringing their own pillows and sleeping bags. We also encourage campers to bring swimsuits as we will have access to the CSU rec center as well as notepads and pens for the lecture periods.
